Webinar flyer

As Europe moves toward climate neutrality, geological CO2 storage plays a vital role in enabling large-scale Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) deployment. This joint Lunch&Learn session brings together experts from COREu (Horizon Europe) and PilotSTRATEGY (Horizon 2020) - two European projects addressing CO2 storage from complementary perspectives.

The event will explore geological case studies from the Czech Republic and Poland, covering the journey from site exploration and characterization to reservoir simulation and storage potential assessment. Participants will gain insights into regional opportunities, challenges, and research outcomes that support the development of future CO2 storage hubs in Central Europe.

Please note: The webinar will be recorded and uploaded on YouTube.

About COREu

COREu is one of the largest research and innovation project in the field of carbon capture and storage (CCS) funded by a European programme. Its goal is to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future, targeting a reduction of 6.8 Mt/year of CO2 by 2035 and 36 Mt/year by 2050. This will be achieved by demonstrating key technologies across the entire CCS value chain in Europe. The project aims to develop new demonstration projects that connect CO2 sources with potential storage sites. The project has received funding from the European Union's HE research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101136217.

The COREu Lunch&Learn webinar series offers short, focused sessions presenting key insights from the project and its experts on carbon capture and storage (CCS). Aimed at researchers, industry, the wider public, and other stakeholders, the webinars provide science-based, accessible input on topics such as CCS deployment routes, social acceptance, business models, and policy frameworks Designed for busy schedules, each session delivers concise knowledge without the need for active participation - just clear, expert-driven content to support informed decision-making and build momentum for safe, sustainable, and socially accepted CCS across Europe.

About PilotSTRATEGY

The PilotSTRATEGY project is investigating geological CO2 storage sites in industrial regions of Southern and Eastern Europe to support development of large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS). It focuses on deep saline aquifers–porous rock formations filled with brine several kilometres below ground – which promise a large capacity for storing CO2 captured from clusters of industry. Detailed studies will be carried out on deep saline aquifers in the Paris Basin in France, the Lusitanian Basin in Portugal and the Ebro Basin in Spain. Furthermore, knowledge of CO2 storage options in West Macedonia in Greece and Upper Silesia in Poland will be enhanced. PilotSTRATEGY will also engage with citizens and stakeholders and ensure that community perspectives are fully represented in the project. The project is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, involves 16 research partners from seven European countries.
